BOSTON -- Sonia Chang-Díaz, Democratic Candidate for State Senate, has announced the appointment of Kim Janey as Chair of her election campaign. Janey, a life-long Roxbury resident and community activist, is the Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Advocates for Children and a member of the board of MassVOTE.
“I’m supporting Sonia for State Senate because I know she will be a tireless advocate for change in our district,” noted Janey. “In our work together on the board of MassVOTE, I’ve been deeply impressed with her work ethic, her ability to get things done, and her unwavering commitment to making our electoral system more accessible for under-represented populations – and I know she’ll bring those same qualities to the State Senate.”
“I’m so honored to have Kim’s support of my bid for State Senate,” said Chang-Díaz. “In everything she does, from her work with the Mass Advocates for Children and at MassVote to her neighborhood activism in Roxbury, Kim shows her dedication to the best interests of our district. She is a true pillar of our community.”
The campaign also announced the hiring of three full-time staffers. Deborah Shah, Chang-Díaz’s campaign manager, comes to the campaign after serving as a Regional Field Director for Governor Deval Patrick’s campaign. Shah has managed several State Senate campaigns and worked for Hillary Clinton in Texas and Pennsylvania.
“I have been involved in many progressive campaigns over the last few years, but nothing means more to me than representation in my own district,” said Shah, who lives in Chinatown. “We face serious challenges and need smart, disciplined leadership with high ethical standards to make change happen. I am convinced that Sonia Chang-Díaz is that leader.”
Also joining the campaign are Marianne von Nordeck as field director and Cherie Robinson as finance director. A former professional cellist, von Nordeck recently worked as a field operative for the Obama Presidential campaign. Robinson, who cut her teeth on grassroots neighborhood organizing, is a Boston native and recent graduate of the Initiative for Diversity and Civic Leadership, a program geared towards developing leaders of color to serve in political office.
