Seeking: Press Secretary

The Sonia Chang-Díaz for Governor campaign is hiring a Press Secretary to help build a progressive movement for bold, transformational change in Massachusetts. 

This person will serve as the campaign’s primary media contact, draft a wide range of press materials, and help develop and execute the campaign’s overall communications strategy. This role is writing intensive, as the Press Secretary will be responsible for drafting speeches, op-eds, letters, statements, talking points, and briefing materials for the Senator and campaign on a daily basis. This person will work with reporters, develop and implement long-term media plans, staff the Senator and campaign surrogates, and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson as needed.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for members of the press, building strong relationships, responding to inquiries, and pitching stories to help win the election, in coordination with campaign leadership.

  • Draft all press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, literature, and other print and longform materials.

  • Reflect and develop the candidate’s voice and message through written materials and media management.

  • Help develop and execute the campaign’s overall communications strategy, in collaboration with members of the communications department and campaign leadership.

  • Lead and coordinate prep sessions with the candidate for media interviews, forums/debates, speeches, etc.

  • Support the development of overall messaging for key campaign priorities.

  • Participate in setting communications priorities and plans for the campaign.

  • Coordinate locations, speakers, and schedules for in-person media events, as needed.


  • Previous media management and on-the-record experience, particularly on campaigns.

  • Exceptional writing skills and experience writing press materials, speeches, talking points.

  • Familiarity with Sonia Chang-Díaz, Massachusetts politics, and State House press corps.

  • Keen attention to detail, demonstrated through writing, planning, and execution.

  • Strong interpersonal communication, management skills, and personal organization.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as required.

  • Spanish-language fluency preferred.
