Sonia Chang-Díaz endorsed by 13 local and state elected officials

Press ReleaseOct 20, 2021

BOSTON, MA - State Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz (D-Boston) announced 13 new endorsements from state and local progressive leaders in her campaign for Massachusetts Governor. The latest slate of endorsers puts her at 25 total endorsements from elected officials all across the state since she launched her campaign in June.

“I’m proud to be endorsed by these strong local leaders and progressive champions across Massachusetts,” said Chang-Díaz. “I know firsthand that winning real change takes a strong, grassroots coalition in every community across our state. Together, we are building the movement to take back the Governor’s office in 2022 and tackle our state’s biggest challenges. This is what real change looks like.”

The new slate of endorsers features state lawmakers, city councilors, and school committee members hailing from Greater Boston to Pittsfield, who praised Chang-Díaz’s decade-plus experience crafting and delivering Massachusetts’ biggest progressive reforms.

“I’ve seen Sonia’s leadership in the State Senate, and I know just how effective she is at achieving results,” said Senator Adam Gomez of Springfield. “She not only has the vision we need in our next Governor, but the track record of delivering for Massachusetts families on issues ranging from education reform, to criminal justice reform, to affordable housing, to public transit, and more. Sonia not only fights for bold changes, she delivers. She’s the Governor we need.”

“Local leaders couldn’t ask for a better partner in the Governor’s office than Sonia Chang-Díaz,” said Brookline Select Board Vice Chair Raul Fernandez. “She gets the scale and urgency of our problems with housing, transportation, the climate crisis, and racial equity, and she’s ready to work with us and the Legislature to deliver bold, workable solutions.”

“I am endorsing Sonia Chang-Díaz for Governor because I know that she will continue to fight to make sure every student in the Commonwealth has access to quality, debt-free public education from early ed to higher ed,” said State Representative Natalie Higgins of Leominster. “Sonia led a strong and diverse coalition to ensure the Student Opportunity Act would invest in our most marginalized communities, and I'm ready to work with her to bring that same vision to ensure all of our students have access to our public colleges and universities."

“I am proud to endorse Sonia Chang-Díaz for Governor because I know that she’ll deliver real, transformative change for Western Massachusetts and our entire state,” said Pittsfield City Councilor Helen Moon. “Sonia not only has the vision, but also the proven track record of achieving results that we need in our next Governor.”
